Towne is a SmartWay Partner
In light of soaring demand for fuel, the overall consumption of energy by companies moving
freight and the resulting harmful emissions, Towne Air Freight has joined an EPA environmental
effort by becoming a SmartWay Transport Partner. Our commitment to "Getting There with Cleaner
Air" is a proactive approach to increasing energy efficiency while reducing air pollution and
greenhouse gases in the coming years.
In an industry that consumes 20 percent of the transportation sector's energy, a growing number
of freight shippers and carriers are cooperating with the EPA. The goal is to move goods more
efficiently--reducing fuel consumption of 3-6 billion gallons of diesel fuel per year and also
reducing air pollutants like carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
"This is an important issue to us all," said Paul Martins, Towne's Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing.
"It makes sense for us as a carrier to cut costs by reducing fuel consumption, but it's also our
responsibility to take action to have a significant, positive impact on emissions and protect our
environment for future generations."
Becoming a Smartway Transport Partner was a positive course of action for Towne in many ways.
"Our top priority is customer care," stated Tom Downey, President/CEO of Towne Air Freight. "Our
forwarding partners have experienced increased concern over their role in emissions. By becoming
a SmartWay Partner we may now collaborate with our customers and the EPA to address those concerns.
It also fits into our vision of being a model of corporate citizenship locally, nationally and globally."
In joining SmartWay, Towne has committed to track environmental performance, set efficiency goals and
work to meet those goals over the next three years.
