Towne Orientation Program (T.O.P.)
On the first day of employment, driver and dock employees start with our Towne Orientation
Program (T.O.P.) and employees are trained throughout their tenure with our company.
Towne Air Freight's T.O.P. program covers areas such as:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
- Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations
- Defensive driving
- Alcohol & drug abuse awareness
- Hazmat regulations
- Forklift training
- Slips, trips and falls
- Cargo security
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) talking points
- Lifting techniques
- Safety and security
- Hours of service
- Vehicle accidents
- Loading and unloading procedures
Quarterly Safety Meetings
Drivers and dockworkers attend a safety meeting each quarter. Topics covered include:
- Lifting techniques
- Forklift and dock operations
- Proper way to load a trailer
- Backing techniques
- Severe weather driving
- Dealing with road rage in other drivers
Bi-Monthly Safety Briefings
Drivers and dockworkers attend bi-monthly safety briefings. These 10-minute briefings
cover any topic that the terminal manager deems needed at the time.
TSA Training
As required by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. all employees
are required to go through annual TSA training.
OSHA Training
Employees go through annual OSHA training. This training is completed on line and
in classroom environments.
Driver Mentor Program
Each terminal is staffed with a company-certified driver mentor. It is the
responsibility of the driver mentor to road test applicants and to serve as a trainer
for the first week of employment for a new driver. The mentor program is designed to
ease a new employee into the Towne atmosphere and to make the transition an easy task.
Sub-contracted Carriers
Sub-contracted carriers are trucking companies that Towne Air Freight has a business
relationship with. To become a sub-contracted carrier (S.C.C.), the prospective carrier
should contact the Safety Department at 800-755-3183.
